Kenojuak Ashevak is widely considered a Canadian national treasure as a groundbreaking artist for Kinngait Studios in the Arctic territory of Nunavut and as a pioneer of modern Inuit art. After establishing her reputation in 1960 with The Enchanted Owl, which was so popular it was reproduced on a Canadian postage stamp, she worked nonstop, contributing to Kinngait’s (Cape Dorset’s) print collection annually and completing several special commissions.
