How it all began...
The Game of Life, one of the world's most beloved games, first came to "life" in 1959 when a multi-talented inventor names Reuben Klamer paid a visit to the headquarters of the Milton Bradley game company in Springfield, Massachusetts.
The art center concept he brought with him that day was not of interest to James Shea Jr., the president of the firm, but fortune did shine on Reuben. He was told that Milton Bradley needed a game to commemorate its 100th anniversary.
Reuben toured the firm's archives and discovered its first notable game: "The Checkered Game of Life". The world "Life" electrified Reuben so, on the plan ride back to his home in California, he began sketching a new game based upon this single word. With the help if artist Bill Markham, Reuben completed a prototype for his game featuring a "3-D' circuitous track, plastic buildings, mountains and an appealing spinner. Milton Bradley loved it and told Reuben it was the best idea submitted for the anniversary. Reuben's experience with plastics came in handy in perfecting the final design (which looked just like the game inside this package).
Noted children's TV personality Art Linkletter endeared the game and, in no time, The Game of Life become a smash hit.
Today, more than 70 years later, you can experience this wonderful game, as it was, through this loving reproduction.
