The daughter of a US Air Force pilot, Katherine Hartman found her passion for mahjong at the age of eight while living in Okinawa, Japan, where she first learned to play from her mother. In her early twenties, Katherine began restoring antique mahjong tiles. She is a collector, dealer, historian, and former co-owner of The Mahjong Collector magazine. She consults for luxury game board maker Crisloid, for which she designed the Mother Nature mahjong set. Her Gratitude mahjong set will be released by Crisloid in fall 2026. Katherine is also a contributor to the bestselling book Mah Jongg: The Art of the Game. Married with grown children, Katherine owns an interior design business and lives in Virginia with her husband, Rick.
